Don't worry, I don't have them….well at least I don't think so anyway. Why are some home based entrepreneurs like fleas? Flea trainers observed a predictable and strange habit of fleas while training them. Fleas are trained by placing them in a cardboard box with a lid on it. The fleas will jump up and hit the top of the cardboard box over and over and over again. When watching the fleas jump and hit the lid, something very interesting became obvious to the scientists. The fleas continue to jump, but they are no longer jumping high enough to hit the top. Apparently, Excedrin headache 1738 (a severe form of migraine) forces them to limit the height of their jump.

When the lid is taken off, the fleas continue to jump, but they will not jump out of the box. They won't jump out because they can't jump out. Why?

The reason is simple. They have conditioned themselves to jump just so high. Once they have conditioned themselves to jump just so high, that's all they can do!

Many times, home based entrepreneurs do the same thing. They restrict themselves and never reach their true potential. Just like the fleas, they fail to jump higher, thinking they are doing all they can do. You Can Jump Higher…

Get Motivated and Reach Your Goals. Getting the things we want in life should not be left to chance. We need to choose our desires carefully, and then take deliberate actions that propel us towards our goals. Sometimes on the way you may feel that you are getting nowhere but you simply need to remember the bigger picture. Why you are doing what you are doing. Why you are a home based entrepreneur in the first place and that will motivate you move on.

Be Persistent. As a Home Based Entrepreneur it often feels like you hit a roadblock or you feel you are banging your head against the top of a box. Stop! Assess the situation, think of an alternative, show perseverance and try something new. Just because something may seem impossible at the time it's no excuse to throw in the towel or limit the height of your jump.

Become Smarter. We become smarter when we work with tools that increase our potential and widen the range of possibilities around what we can achieve. For instance, using the internet lets us do lots of things we could not otherwise do alone. The internet and other systems it gives us access to, allow us to leverage certain activities too so we can focus our energies in other areas relevant to business growth.

Develop the mental software between your ears. Yes, I am passionate about leveraging technology to drive business growth, but at the same time what is the point in having all of these advanced systems and tools if you do not have the mental capacity to understand how to use them? More importantly, you need to know how to utilise them efficiently. "Power up" your thinking skills.

Test, operate, test again and move on! Coaches, mentors, the military and governments use feedback strategies to forecast how they can make goal setting and reaching outcomes better next time around.

Think back to a previous situation when things went extremely well. It could be from a career perspective, to do with your personal life, or it could be a sporting achievement.

• Did you plan how you would achieve your outcome beforehand?
• Did what you expected to happen actually materialise?

Noticing what happens provides the necessary feedback about the extent to which you are on target

• How far were you off target?
• What actions could you have taken to put things right?

When taking actions to achieve new heights, test to see whether you are getting nearer to your goal.

You may have to test and operate many times before you eventually reach your target, then move on, taking the results of your learning with you, so you can reposition your next attempt and jump even higher. Remember that if you take no action you will get nowhere!

Don't develop a headache; think bigger instead, and as a home basedentrepreneur you will find yourself reaching new heights and jumping out of the box!
